Steel-and-timber stairs from design to production documents

Stairgen is a Rhinoceros plug-in for stairs with steel stringers and timber treads. You never draw a stair from scratch. You start from a complete stair, change parameters and pick the right solution. The program recalculates everything else: the 3D model, drawings, laser-cut outlines and tread formats.

Four steps from enquiry to production

fig. 21

You don't start from zero

Open a template — and the stair is already there. Move the plan points to match the building, change parameters, pick the right solution.

fig. 32

The program does the rest

Treads by the Lehmann formula, the walking line, stringers, anchoring and railings. One or more flights, straight, winder or landing.

fig. 43

Fine-tune the details

Every job has something no rule can handle. You edit the drawing directly and the program keeps building with your version.

fig. 54

Send it to production

Laser-cut outlines, tread formats, drawings and the 3D model go straight to production.

pl. IModels

Many stair models

Various stringer types, saddle construction, winder or landing stairs. Save each construction as a model with a thumbnail and pick it from the list on the next job. The stair rebuilds in a second.

pl. IIRailings

Countless railing variants

Frame, glass, balusters, slanted bars in two layers. A railing is its own model, independent of the stair, so the same railing fits any stair and vice versa. Profiles, spacing, infills and anchoring are yours to set, and you save them as another model of your own.

pl. IIIShape

Edit the shape freely

The whole stair hangs on a single line in the plan. Move a point, add a flight by holding a point, insert a landing — the program recalculates treads, stringers, anchoring and railings. Straight, winder and landing stairs, one to five flights.

pl. IVConsistency

Plan, views, 3D and formats stay in sync

The plan, the unfolded stringer, the 3D model, laser-cut outlines and tread formats are one model. A change anywhere shows up everywhere and nothing is redrawn.

pl. VManual override

Controls appear where you need them

In most parametric programs the automation stops at the first one-off. In Stairgen you edit the drawing by hand and the calculation continues with your change. Controls appear right where you need them — at a tread, a stringer outline, a railing bar.

pl. VIMultistair

Several stairs in one document

Two stairs on top of each other. You draw the lower one, on the upper one you find the lower one has to change, and you draw it again. In Stairgen both stairs live in one document, each with its own settings, materials and railing. Change the lower one, the upper one stays, and the plan, 3D and unfolded views of both still match. The same goes for three variants side by side for a customer.

pl. VIIBill of materials

Automatic bill of materials

Every joint in the model is tracked and every hole means a piece of hardware. Set once what you use for a given joint, and from then on the program counts. A complete list of fasteners, components and assembly parts for every job.

pl. VIIIDrawings

Railing drawings in one click

Dimensioned railing drawings for the workshop in one click, from the same model as everything else. Ready to print and hand to the fabricator.

pl. IXCustomer

Spoil your customer

The drawings are done and the customer wants a different railing, a different wood, a different shade. The change takes minutes. You change what's needed and every document regenerates itself.

What the program generates

Six documents for every job.

No.DocumentContents
013D model The complete stair for customer approval — stringers, treads, anchoring, railings.
02Drawings Production documentation for the job, ready to print and hand to the workshop.
03Laser-cut outlines Stringer blanks with anchoring holes — data ready for plate cutting.
04Tread formats Exact formats of all treads and landings, numbered and matched to the job.
05Hardware list A list of hardware and fasteners for the whole job — nothing is forgotten when ordering.
06CNC program For companies with a machining centre: ready G-code for machining the treads, with a built-in simulation.

Why Stairgen exists

“I have been engineering steel-and-timber stairs for eleven years. I wrote Stairgen so I would not have to draw the same thing every week.”

Interested?

We are offering Stairgen to the first companies personally. Write or call and we will arrange a demo on your own job and a free 30-day trial. We go through the installation together, on site or remotely.

The trial includes every feature of the program, including the CNC machining simulation. It runs for 30 days from the first activation, no credit card and no automatic renewal. Rhino 7 and Rhino 8.
